**Tariat** ([/ˈtæriət/](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA/English); [Mongolian](/source/Mongolian_language): Тариат [\[tʰɛ́rʲɛtʰ\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA/Mongolian)) is a [district](/source/Districts_of_Mongolia) of [Arkhangai Province](/source/Arkhangai_Province) in central [Mongolia](/source/Mongolia). As of 2009 it had a population of 5,086 (mainly Chalcha), 644 of whom lived in the village of Tariat.

## Geography

Tariat is located 195 kilometres (121 mi) northwest of [Tsetserleg](/source/Tsetserleg%2C_Arkhangai), the capital of the province. To west of the town is [Khorgo-Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur National Park](/source/Khorgo-Terkhiin_Tsagaan_Nuur_National_Park), noted for its striking crater [Khorgo](/source/Khorgo).[1][2]

The [Chuluut River](/source/Chuluut_River) flows through the district. In 1977 the Soviet geologist [Kavel](/source/Kavel) discovered rock images along the river.[3]

## Administrative divisions

The district is divided into seven [bags](/source/Bags_of_Mongolia), which are:[4]

- Buuruljuut

- Khorgo

- Murun

- Suman

- Terkh

- Tsagaannuur

## Education

The school in Tariat was attended by the [Mongolian Social Democratic Party](/source/Mongolian_Social_Democratic_Party) politician [Radnaasümbereliin Gonchigdorj](/source/Radnaas%C3%BCmbereliin_Gonchigdorj).[5]
