'''Tantite''' is a rare [tantalum](/source/tantalum) [oxide](/source/oxide) mineral with formula: [Ta](/source/tantalum)2[O](/source/oxygen)5. Tantite forms transparent microscopic colorless [triclinic](/source/triclinic) - pedial crystals with an adamantine luster. It has a [Mohs hardness](/source/Mohs_hardness) of 7 and a high [specific gravity](/source/specific_gravity) of 8.45. Chemical analyses show minor inclusion (1.3%) of [niobium](/source/niobium) oxide.

It was first described in 1983 for an occurrence in a [pegmatite](/source/pegmatite) in the [Kola peninsula](/source/Kola_peninsula), [Russia](/source/Russia). It has also been reported from a pegmatite complex in [Florence County, Wisconsin](/source/Florence_County%2C_Wisconsin). Associated mineral species include [elbaite](/source/elbaite), [lepidolite](/source/lepidolite), [spodumene](/source/spodumene), [columbite-tantalite](/source/columbite-tantalite), [wodginite](/source/wodginite), and [microlite](/source/microlite).
