**Tanchang** ([Chinese](/source/Chinese_language): 宕昌; [pinyin](/source/Pinyin): *Tànchāng*[1]), also pronounced **Dàngchāng**, is a county in the south of [Gansu](/source/Gansu) province, China. It is the westernmost [county-level division](/source/County-level_division) of the [prefecture-level city](/source/Prefecture-level_city) of [Longnan](/source/Longnan). In 2017 its population was 319,400 people.[2]

## History

During the 4th-5th century, the region was ruled by the [Dangchang Kingdom](/source/Dangchang_Kingdom). Then as part of the [Western Xia](/source/Western_Xia), Tanchang was inhabited by [Qiangics](/source/Tangut_people).[3]
