**Talmage** is an [unincorporated community](/source/Unincorporated_area) in central [Duchesne County](/source/Duchesne_County,_Utah), [Utah](/source/Utah), United States.[1]

## Description

The community lies along the former [Utah State Route 134](/source/Utah_State_Route_134_(1933-1969)) (1933-1969), and west of the current [Utah State Route 87](/source/Utah_State_Route_87). Its elevation is 6,834 feet (2,083 m).[1] Although Talmage is unincorporated, it has its own [ZIP code](/source/ZIP_code) of 84073.[2][3]

## History

The town was founded in 1907 and named **Winn** in 1912, but renamed in 1914 to honor [Latter-day Saint](/source/The_Church_of_Jesus_Christ_of_Latter-day_Saints) leader [James E. Talmage](/source/James_E._Talmage).[4]

The Talmage Post Office, which was hosted in a small bedroom in the home of long-time postmaster Warner Nielsen, closed after his death in 2003.
