A mythical [hintha](/source/Hamsa_(bird)) (or more rarely a [kinnara](/source/kinnara)) is generally found perching atop the column, while the base of the column may be decorated with [Thagyamin](/source/Thagyamin).<ref name="niu"/><ref name="ferrars"/> [Vasudhara](/source/Vasudhara), the earth goddess, may also be found at the base.<ref name="niu"/>
