'''Taganrog Bay''' ({{Langx|ru|Таганрогский залив}}; {{langx|uk|Таганрозька затока}}) is the northeastern arm of the [Sea of Azov](/source/Sea_of_Azov). It also may be perceived as a flooded [estuary](/source/estuary) of the [Don River](/source/Don_River_(Russia)).

==Geography==
The bay serves as a natural boundary between the Kuban coast line in Russia and the northern Azov littoral region in Ukraine and Russia.

At its northeast end is the mouth of the [Don River](/source/Don_River_(Russia)). Length: about {{convert|140|km|mi}}, width at the mouth: {{convert|31|km|mi}}, median depth: about {{convert|5|m|ft}}. It may freeze some winters from December to March.

Three other rivers, the [Kalmius](/source/Kalmius), [Mius](/source/Mius) and the [Yeya](/source/Yeya_River), flow into the bay. The flow of water into the bay is the chief factor for current development in the Sea of Azov.<ref name=Taganrog>{{cite web|title=Taganrog Bay|url=http://giduss.info/taganrogbay.html|publisher=Giduss.info|accessdate=8 February 2013|url-status=dead|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20130124055005/http://www.giduss.info/taganrogbay.html|archivedate=24 January 2013}}</ref>

===Landforms===
Its mouth is marked by the [Dolgaya Spit](/source/Dolgaya_Spit) on the south and the {{ill|Bilosarayska Spit|uk|Білосарайська коса}} on the north. It abounds in sandy [spit](/source/Spit_(landform))s that partly enclose shallow bays. The bay contains sandy isles. Other major spits: [:uk:Крива коса](/source/%3Auk%3A%D0%9A%D1%80%D0%B8%D0%B2%D0%B0_%D0%BA%D0%BE%D1%81%D0%B0), [:uk:Біглицька коса](/source/%3Auk%3A%D0%91%D1%96%D0%B3%D0%BB%D0%B8%D1%86%D1%8C%D0%BA%D0%B0_%D0%BA%D0%BE%D1%81%D0%B0), [:uk:Єйська коса](/source/%3Auk%3A%D0%84%D0%B9%D1%81%D1%8C%D0%BA%D0%B0_%D0%BA%D0%BE%D1%81%D0%B0).

The major ports are [Taganrog](/source/Taganrog), [Mariupol](/source/Mariupol) ([Ukraine](/source/Ukraine)), and [Yeysk](/source/Yeysk). [Rostov-on-Don](/source/Rostov_na_Donu) is a few miles up the Don river.

===Water===
The concentration of salt water in the Gulf is uneven. The water in the eastern and shallower part of the bay, which receives water from the Don River, is mostly desalinized. The western end of the bay is completely salt water.<ref name="Taganrog"/>

Besides Don, the bay receives waters of [Kalmius](/source/Kalmius), [Mius](/source/Mius) (with its prominent {{ill|Mius estuary|uk|Міуський лиман}} (''[liman](/source/liman_(landform))'')), and [Yeya](/source/Yeya) rivers.
