'''Tadla''' is a historical and geographical region of [Morocco](/source/Morocco), located in the center of the country, north of the [High Atlas mountain range](/source/High_Atlas) and west of the [Middle Atlas](/source/Middle_Atlas). It is the region of origin of the eponymous collection of tribal, semi-nomadic pastoralist population, the Tadla tribes.

Nowadays, the historical region of Tadla is mainly part of the administrative region of [Béni Mellal-Khénifra](/source/B%C3%A9ni_Mellal-Kh%C3%A9nifra), except for the historical territory of the Beni Meskine tribe, which is part of the [Casablanca-Settat](/source/Casablanca-Settat) administrative region.

== History ==

The Tadla region was one of the first regions of [Morocco](/source/Morocco) that was conquered by the Muslims during the 7th century. The region was relatively green and had a good agricultural potential, thus its name, Tadla, which comes from the [Amazigh](/source/Amazigh) or [Standard Moroccan Amazigh](/source/Standard_Moroccan_Amazigh) word "tadla" (written:ⵜⴰⴷⵍⴰ) meaning "the sheaf" (of wheat).<ref>{{cite web | url=https://dicber-mc.centrederechercheberbere.fr/dicber.html | title=Le dictionnaire Tamazight du Maroc central - A. The population of the Tadla is traditionally divided into 9 tribes, mainly of Arab origin:

* [Ouardigha](/source/Ouardigha) tribal confederacy: occupying the central and the western parts of the modern [Khouribga Province](/source/Khouribga_Province); confederacy formed by 3 tribes: [Oulad Bahr Kbar](/source/Oulad_Bahr_Kbar), [Oulad Bahr Sghar](/source/Oulad_Bahr_Sghar) and [Smaʿla](/source/Sma%CA%BFla).<ref>{{Cite journal |last=Gate |first=Recherch |date=2024-01-01 |title=Genetic studies on Moroccans Statement of the genetic origins of the Arabs and Amazighs of Morocco |trans-title=الدراسات الوراثية على المغاربة بيان الأصول الجينية لعرب وأمازيغ المغرب |url=https://www.academia.edu/125856979/Genetic_studies_on_Moroccans_Statement_of_the_genetic_origins_of_the_Arabs_and_Amazighs_of_Morocco?source=swp_share |journal=إ.ت.س ياسين |pages=43 |via=Academia.edu}}</ref>
