{{Short description|Study of systems}}
{{Refimprove|date=October 2009}}
In the context of [systems science](/source/systems_science) and [systems philosophy](/source/systems_philosophy), '''systemics''' is an initiative to study [system](/source/system)s. It is an attempt at developing logical, mathematical, engineering and philosophical paradigms and frameworks in which physical, technological, biological, social, [cognitive](/source/cognitive) and [metaphysical](/source/metaphysics) systems can be studied and modeled.{{citation needed|date=July 2012}}

The term "systemics" was coined in the 1970s by [Mario Bunge](/source/Mario_Bunge) and others, as an alternative paradigm for research related to [general systems theory](/source/systems_theory) and systems science.<ref name = "MB 79">[Mario Bunge](/source/Mario_Bunge) (1979).
