The **Syrian Arab Football Association** (**SFA**; [Arabic](/source/Arabic_language): الاتحاد العربي السوري لكرة القدم) is the governing body of [football in Syria](/source/Football_in_Syria), controlling the Syrian national teams, the [Syrian Premier League](/source/Syrian_Premier_League), and other domestic competitions. The SFA was founded in 1936 and has been a member of [FIFA](/source/FIFA) since 1937, the [Asian Football Confederation](/source/Asian_Football_Confederation) since 1970, and the Sub-confederation regional body [West Asian Football Federation](/source/West_Asian_Football_Federation) since 2001. Syria is also part of the [Union of Arab Football Associations](/source/Union_of_Arab_Football_Associations) and has been a member since 1974. Syria's team is commonly known as Nosour [Qasioun](/source/Mount_Qasioun) ([Arabic](/source/Arabic_language): نسور قاسيون, [lit.](/source/Literal_translation) 'Qasioun eagles').[*[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)*]
