Syria currently competes in the Asia/Oceania Zone of Group III.

## History

Syria made their Davis Cup debut in [1986](/source/1986_Davis_Cup). Their best performance has been reaching the Asia/Oceania Zone Group II second round in [1988](/source/1988_Davis_Cup).[*[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)*]

Syria currently compete in the Asia/Oceania Zone of Group IV. They won Group III in [2000](/source/2000_Davis_Cup), [2010](/source/2010_Davis_Cup), and [2013](/source/2013_Davis_Cup).[1][2]

[Kareem Al Allaf](/source/Kareem_Al_Allaf) represented the Syria Davis Cup team at the [Davis Cup](/source/Davis_Cup), where he played #1 singles and had a W/L record of 18–9 (12–5 in singles play) in 2015–21.[3][4][5]

The Syrian Tennis Federation banned him, because he competed in a match against an [Israeli](/source/Israelis) opponent in a [2022 ITF Men's World Tennis Tour](/source/2022_ITF_Men's_World_Tennis_Tour) tournament in [Fayetteville](/source/Fayetteville%2C_Arkansas), [Arkansas](/source/Arkansas), in November 2022.[6][7] Egyptian journalist Reem Abulleil wrote on Twitter: "Syrian tennis player @KareemAllaf played against and defeated Israeli player Nitzan Ricklis last week in a $15k in Fayetteville, Arkansas. As a response, the Syrian Tennis Federation has banned him. Hope @ITFTennis do something. This nonsense has got to stop."[7]

As a result of the Syrian federation's ban, Allaf switched nationalities to represent his birth country, the United States.[7]
