The species was [first described](/source/Species_description) by [Augustus Radcliffe Grote](/source/Augustus_Radcliffe_Grote) in 1874. It is found in North America from coast to coast in most of [Canada](/source/Canada) south in the east to northern [Pennsylvania](/source/Pennsylvania), [Ohio](/source/Ohio), and the [Great Lakes](/source/Great_Lakes) states.

The [wingspan](/source/wingspan) is 34–36&nbsp;mm. Adults are on wing from July to August depending on the location. There is one generation per year.

The larvae feed on ''[Vaccinium](/source/Vaccinium)'' species.
