# Symra

***Symra*** was a [Norwegian language](/source/Norwegian_language) periodical published between 1905 and 1914.

*Symra; En Aarbog for Norske Paa Begge Sider Af Havet* (Symra; an Annual for Norwegians on Both Sides of the Sea) was established to publish the literary works of [Norwegian American](/source/Norwegian_American) authors, writers and poets. [Johannes B. Wist](/source/Johannes_B._Wist) and [Kristian Prestgard](/source/Kristian_Prestgard), both editors of the *[Decorah-Posten](/source/Decorah-Posten),* served as editors and publishers of *Symra*s first volumes. *Symra* was printed by Decorah-posten's trykkeri in the Lutheran Publishing House, now a primary building of the [Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum](/source/Vesterheim_Norwegian-American_Museum) in [Decorah, Iowa](/source/Decorah,_Iowa).[1]

In 1912, the Symra Company was re-organized with [Knut Gjerset](/source/Knut_Gjerset) of [Luther College](/source/Luther_College_(Iowa)), and P. J. Eikeland of [St. Olaf College](/source/St._Olaf_College) serving as editors. As well the magazine, the Symra Company published Norwegian language books including: *Ameriká og Andre Digte* in 1912, and *Efterladte Digte* in 1914. Both were books of poems written by [Agnes Mathilde Wergeland](/source/Agnes_Mathilde_Wergeland).

The pages of *Symra* featured a listing of notable Norwegian-American authors including: [Peer Stromme](/source/Peer_Stromme), [Knut Gjerset](/source/Knut_Gjerset), [Hjalmar Holand](/source/Hjalmar_Holand), [Waldemar Ager](/source/Waldemar_Ager), [George T. Flom](/source/George_T._Flom), [Peter Laurentius Larsen](/source/Peter_Laurentius_Larsen), [Ole Edvart Rølvaag](/source/Ole_Edvart_R%C3%B8lvaag), and [Kristofer Janson](/source/Kristofer_Janson).[2]
