Canadian screenwriter and film director

**Sylvain Guy** is a Canadian screenwriter and film director from [Quebec](/source/Quebec). He is most noted for the 2004 film *[Machine Gun Molly](/source/Machine_Gun_Molly_(film)) (Monica la mitraille)*, for which he and [Luc Dionne](/source/Luc_Dionne) won the [Genie Award](/source/Genie_Award) for [Best Adapted Screenplay](/source/Canadian_Screen_Award_for_Best_Screenplay) at the [25th Genie Awards](/source/25th_Genie_Awards) in 2005.[1] He was also previously nominated in the same category for *[Black List](/source/Black_List_(1995_film)) (Liste noire)* at the [16th Genie Awards](/source/16th_Genie_Awards) in 1996,[2] and subsequently at the [10th Canadian Screen Awards](/source/10th_Canadian_Screen_Awards) in 2022 for *[Confessions of a Hitman](/source/Confessions_of_a_Hitman) (Confessions)*.[3]

His first film as a director, the short film *[Zie 37 Stagen](/source/Zie_37_Stagen)*, was a Genie nominee for [Best Live Action Short Drama](/source/Canadian_Screen_Award_for_Best_Live_Action_Short_Drama) at the [18th Genie Awards](/source/18th_Genie_Awards) in 1997.[4] His feature film debut, *The List*, was an English-language remake of *Liste noire*.[5]

He subsequently directed the feature films *[Detour](/source/Detour_(2009_Canadian_film))* (2009)[6] and *The Ultimate Pranx Case* (2012), and wrote the screenplays for the films *[Louis Cyr](/source/Louis_Cyr_(film))*,[7] *[Mafia Inc.](/source/Mafia_Inc.)*,[8] *Confessions of a Hitman*[9] and *[Victoire](/source/Victoire_(2023_film)) (La Cordonnière)*.[10]

In 2020 he was announced as the writer of a forthcoming biopic of Quebec singer [Diane Dufresne](/source/Diane_Dufresne).[11]

He wrote the 2023 television series *[Mégantic](/source/M%C3%A9gantic_(TV_series))*.[12]
