# Sweetia

***Sweetia fruticosa*** is a species of [flowering plants](/source/Flowering_plant) in the [legume](/source/Legume) family, [Fabaceae](/source/Fabaceae). It is a tree native to eastern, southern, and west-central Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay, and northeastern Argentina.[1] It is the only member of the genus ***Sweetia*** (though some sources also include *Sweetia atrata* Mohlenbr.).[2][3] It belongs to the subfamily [Faboideae](/source/Faboideae). It was traditionally assigned to the tribe [Sophoreae](/source/Sophoreae), mainly on the basis of flower morphology;[4] recent [molecular phylogenetic](/source/Molecular_phylogenetic) analyses [assigned](/source/Circumscription_(taxonomy)) *Sweetia fruticosa* into an informal, monophyletic clade called the "[vataireoids](/source/Vataireoids)".[5][6]
