**Sverresborg Church** ([Norwegian](/source/Norwegian_language): *Sverresborg kirkesenter*) is a [parish church](/source/Parish_church) of the [Church of Norway](/source/Church_of_Norway) in [Trondheim Municipality](/source/Trondheim_Municipality) in [Trøndelag](/source/Tr%C3%B8ndelag) county, [Norway](/source/Norway). It is located in the [Sverresborg](/source/Sverresborg) neighborhood in the district of [Byåsen](/source/By%C3%A5sen) in the [city of Trondheim](/source/City_of_Trondheim). It is one of the churches in the Sverresborg [parish](/source/Parish) (the other is [Havstein Church](/source/Havstein_Church)). The parish is part of the [Heimdal og Byåsen prosti](/source/Heimdal_og_By%C3%A5sen_prosti) ([deanery](/source/Deanery)) in the [Diocese of Nidaros](/source/Diocese_of_Nidaros). The wood church is clad with [fiber cement siding](/source/Fiber_cement_siding) and it was built in a modern, [rectangular](/source/Churches_in_Norway#Floor_plan) design in 2014 by the [architect](/source/Architect) [Stein Halvorsen](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Stein_Halvorsen&action=edit&redlink=1).[1][2]

## History

The parish of Sverresborg was created in 1970 when it was separated from the large [Byåsen Church](/source/By%C3%A5sen_Church) parish. Initially, the parish of Sverresborg consisted of one church, [Havstein Church](/source/Havstein_Church). A second church was later needed for the parish, so in 2006 an architectural competition was held for the new church. It was won by Stein Halvorsen with a project called "With the sky as a roof". The 500-square-metre (5,400 sq ft) church cost about 16 million [kr](/source/Norwegian_krone) to build. The building was [consecrated](/source/Consecrate) on 7 September 2014.[3][4]
