# Svelgselva

**Svelgselva**[1] is a [river](/source/River) in [Bremanger Municipality](/source/Bremanger_Municipality) in [Vestland](/source/Vestland) county, [Norway](/source/Norway). The river originates from the lake [Hjelmevatnet](/source/Hjelmevatnet), and empties into the [Nordgulen](/source/Nordgulen) fjord at the village of [Svelgen](/source/Svelgen).

## Power generation

The river is regulated for exploitation of its [hydropower](/source/Hydropower). The four [Svelgen Hydroelectric Power Stations](/source/Svelgen_Hydroelectric_Power_Stations), which exploit the river and its neighbouring water systems, have a combined installed capacity of 107 megawatts (143,000 hp).[2]
