**Stig Svante Stockselius** (Swedish: [\[ˈsvânːtɛ stɔkˈsěːlɪɵs\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA/Swedish); born 31 December 1955) is a [Swedish](/source/Swedes) [journalist](/source/Journalist) and television executive. He was the executive supervisor of the [Eurovision Song Contest](/source/Eurovision_Song_Contest) from [2004](/source/Eurovision_Song_Contest_2004) to [2010](/source/Eurovision_Song_Contest_2010) and the [Junior Eurovision Song Contest](/source/Junior_Eurovision_Song_Contest) from [2003](/source/Junior_Eurovision_Song_Contest_2003) to [2010](/source/Junior_Eurovision_Song_Contest_2010).

## Early life and career

Svante Stockselius grew up in [Ockelbo](/source/Ockelbo_Municipality), a small town in central Sweden.[1] He started his career as a journalist. For 16 years, he worked for the [Stockholm](/source/Stockholm)-based evening newspaper *[Expressen](/source/Expressen)*.[2]

As head of the entertainment division of the Swedish [public service](/source/Public_broadcasting) [television](/source/Television) company [Sveriges Television](/source/Sveriges_Television) from the late 1990s, he worked for the [Eurovision Song Contest 2000](/source/Eurovision_Song_Contest_2000), held in [Stockholm](/source/Stockholm).[3] He was also the architect of a major revamp of the Swedish ESC qualification competition, [Melodifestivalen](/source/Melodifestivalen), in [2002](/source/Melodifestivalen_2002), introducing four semi-finals and a Second Chance round preceding the finals.[4] That same year, he went on to work for the commercial Swedish television channel [TV4](/source/TV4_(Sweden)).[5]

After [Estonia's ESC victory](/source/Estonia_in_the_Eurovision_Song_Contest_2001) in [2001](/source/Eurovision_Song_Contest_2001), Stockselius was asked by the Estonian television channel [ETV](/source/Eesti_Televisioon) to take part in the preparations for the [2002 event](/source/Eurovision_Song_Contest_2002).[6] In 2003 he was offered the job as executive supervisor for the Eurovision Song Contest,[7] a position he would hold until 30 August 2010, when it was announced that he would be resigning after the [Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2010](/source/Junior_Eurovision_Song_Contest_2010) to "give others the opportunity to take the event to the next level".[8] In November 2010, Norwegian television executive [Jon Ola Sand](/source/Jon_Ola_Sand) was appointed his successor in the role.
