## Education

George earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from [Mount Holyoke College](/source/Mount_Holyoke_College) and a [Juris Doctor](/source/Juris_Doctor) from the [George Washington University Law School](/source/George_Washington_University_Law_School).[1]

## Career

From 1990 to 1993, George worked for the [National Democratic Institute](/source/National_Democratic_Institute). From 1995 to 1997, she served as a special assistant and assistant counsel in the Office of the [Ambassador of the United States to the United Nations](/source/List_of_ambassadors_of_the_United_States_to_the_United_Nations).[2] From 1997 to 2001, George was deputy chief of staff to the United States secretary of state. George also worked in foreign policy and national security roles in the [Obama administration](/source/Obama_Administration), including chief of staff of the CIA's [Directorate of Operations.](/source/Directorate_of_Operations_(CIA))[3][4] She was appointed Executive Secretary and Chief of Staff of the [United States National Security Council](/source/United_States_National_Security_Council) in July 2014.[5]
