Sushi Typhoon was founded in 2010 as a subsidiary of Nikkatsu, with the intent to create low-budget horror, science fiction, and fantasy films aimed at an international audience. ''[Zeiram](/source/Zeiram)'' producer [Yoshinori Chiba](/source/Yoshinori_Chiba) is credited as Sushi Typhoon's creator<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.sushi-typhoon.com/about-sushi-typhoon/yoshinori-chiba|title=Yoshinori Chiba: Sushi Typhoon |publisher=Sushi Typhoon|accessdate=June 13, 2011}}</ref> and oversees the company's full production schedule.
