**Surkhi Assembly constituency** is one of the 230 [Vidhan Sabha](/source/Madhya_Pradesh_Vidhan_Sabha) (Legislative Assembly) constituencies of [Madhya Pradesh](/source/Madhya_Pradesh) state in central [India](/source/India).[1] This constituency came into existence in 1951, as one of the Vidhan Sabha constituencies of Madhya Pradesh state.[2]

## Overview

Surkhi (constituency number 37) is one of the 8 Vidhan Sabha constituencies located in [Sagar district](/source/Sagar_district). This constituency presently covers the entire [Surkhi](/source/Surkhi) town, [Rahatgarh](/source/Rahatgarh) [tehsil](/source/Tehsil) and part of Sagar tehsil of the district.[3]

Surkhi is part of [Sagar Lok Sabha constituency](/source/Sagar_(Lok_Sabha_constituency)) along with seven other Vidhan Sabha segments, namely, [Bina](/source/Bina_Assembly_constituency), [Khurai](/source/Khurai%2C_Madhya_Pradesh_Assembly_constituency), [Naryoli](/source/Naryoli_Assembly_constituency) and [Sagar](/source/Sagar%2C_Madhya_Pradesh_Assembly_constituency) in this district and [Kurwai](/source/Kurwai_Assembly_constituency), [Sironj](/source/Sironj_Assembly_constituency) and [Shamshabad](/source/Shamshabad_Assembly_constituency) in [Vidisha district](/source/Vidisha_district).[3]

### 2020 bypoll

In the 2020 by-election, [Govind Singh Rajput](/source/Govind_Singh_Rajput) of the Bharatiya Janata Party won the seat by defeating Parul Sahu Keshri from the Indian National Congress with a margin of 40,991 votes.[5] Rajput secured 93,294 votes while runner-up Parul got only 52,303 votes.[6]
