Chinese amphibious ultralight trike

STB General information Type Ultralight trike National origin China Manufacturer Sunward Tech Status In production (2018)

The **Sunward STB** is a Chinese [amphibious](/source/Amphibious_aircraft) [ultralight trike](/source/Ultralight_trike), designed and produced by [Sunward Tech](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Sunward_Tech&action=edit&redlink=1) (Hunan Sunward Science & Technologies Company Limited) of [Zhuzhou](/source/Zhuzhou). The aircraft is supplied complete and ready-to-fly.[1]

## Design and development

The STB is intended for the [search and rescue](/source/Search_and_rescue) role, as well as tourist flights and recreational use. It was designed to comply with the [Fédération Aéronautique Internationale](/source/F%C3%A9d%C3%A9ration_A%C3%A9ronautique_Internationale) [microlight](/source/Microlight) category, including the category's maximum gross weight of 450 kg (992 lb). The aircraft has a maximum gross weight of 450 kg (992 lb).[1]

The aircraft design features a [strut-braced](/source/Strut-braced) [hang glider](/source/Hang_glider)-style [high-wing](/source/High-wing), weight-shift controls, a two-seats-in-[tandem](/source/Tandem) open cockpit with a rigid boat hull, retractable [tricycle landing gear](/source/Tricycle_landing_gear) and a single engine in [pusher configuration](/source/Pusher_configuration). The boat hull was designed for use in higher wave conditions.[1]

The aircraft is made from bolted-together [aluminum](/source/Aluminum) tubing and composites. It uses a double surface [Grif Hazard](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Grif_Hazard&action=edit&redlink=1) wing, made by the Italian company [Grif Italia](/source/Grif_Italia). The 10.35 m (34.0 ft) span wing is supported by struts and uses an "A" frame weight-shift control bar. The powerplant is an Austrian-made twin cylinder, liquid-cooled, [two-stroke](/source/Two-stroke), [dual-ignition](/source/Dual-ignition) 64 hp (48 kW) [Rotax 582](/source/Rotax_582) engine or four cylinder, air and liquid-cooled, [four-stroke](/source/Four-stroke), dual-ignition 80 hp (60 kW) [Rotax 912UL](/source/Rotax_912UL) engine.[1]

The aircraft has an empty weight of 248 kg (547 lb) and a gross weight of 450 kg (992 lb), giving a useful load of 202 kg (445 lb). With full fuel of 60 litres (13 imp gal; 16 US gal) the payload is 159 kg (351 lb).[1]
