**Sunamganj-3** is a constituency represented in the [Jatiya Sangsad](/source/Jatiya_Sangsad) (National Parliament) of [Bangladesh](/source/Bangladesh). Since 6 August 2024, the constituency remains vacant.

## Boundaries

The constituency encompasses [Shantiganj](/source/Shantiganj_Upazila) and [Jagannathpur](/source/Jagannathpur_Upazila) upazilas.[2][3]

## History

The constituency was created in 1984 from a Sylhet constituency when the former Sylhet District was split into four districts: [Sunamganj](/source/Sunamganj_District), [Sylhet](/source/Sylhet_District), [Moulvibazar](/source/Moulvibazar_District), and [Habiganj](/source/Habiganj_District).[4]

Abdus Samad Azad died in April 2005.[11] [Islami Oikya Jote](/source/Islami_Oikya_Jote) leader [Shahinur Pasha Chowdhury](/source/Shahinur_Pasha_Chowdhury) was elected in a July 2005 by-election. He defeated Awami League candidate M. A. Mannan, Jatiya Party (Ershad) candidate Syed Ali Ahmed, independent candidate M. Nazrul Islam, and five other lower-polling contenders.[11][12]
