Sun has a career high [ATP](/source/Association_of_Tennis_Professionals) singles ranking of world No. 197 achieved on 4 May 2026 and a career high ATP doubles ranking of world No. 181 achieved on 26 February 2024. He is the current No. 4 Chinese player.[1]

## Career

Sun made his ATP main draw debut at the [2016 Chengdu Open](/source/2016_Chengdu_Open), where he was granted a wildcard entry in the doubles draw alongside compatriot [He Yecong](/source/He_Yecong). They were defeated in the first round by [Raven Klaasen](/source/Raven_Klaasen) and [Rajeev Ram](/source/Rajeev_Ram) in straight sets.

The following year, he was again given a wildcard at the [2017 Chengdu Open](/source/2017_Chengdu_Open) with partner [Te Rigele](/source/Te_Rigele), and again he would lose in the first round to [Nenad Zimonjic](/source/Nenad_Zimonjic) and [Santiago Gonzalez](/source/Santiago_Gonzalez_(tennis)) in straight sets.

In his third main draw appearance, he and partner [Zhizhen Zhang](/source/Zhizhen_Zhang) were given a wildcard entry into the doubles draw of the [2018 ATP Shenzhen Open](/source/2018_ATP_Shenzhen_Open) but lost in the first round to [Marcin Matkowski](/source/Marcin_Matkowski) and [Nicholas Monroe](/source/Nicholas_Monroe).

His fourth and most recent ATP appearance (also his third at the tournament) was a wildcard entry into the doubles draw of the [2019 Chengdu Open](/source/2019_Chengdu_Open) pairing up with [Wang Aoran](/source/Wang_Aoran), and to round up an 0–4 record he lost to [Dominic Inglot](/source/Dominic_Inglot) and [Austin Krajicek](/source/Austin_Krajicek).

He was given a wildcard at the [2023 China Open](/source/2023_China_Open_(tennis)) partnering [Zhou Yi](/source/Zhou_Yi_(tennis)). He received a wildcard in doubles partnering [Li Zhe](/source/Li_Zhe_(tennis)) at the [2023 Rolex Shanghai Masters](/source/2023_Rolex_Shanghai_Masters) and also a qualifying wildcard in singles at the [2024 Rolex Shanghai Masters](/source/2024_Rolex_Shanghai_Masters) where he upset fourth seed [Borna Ćorić](/source/Borna_%C4%86ori%C4%87) in the first round of qualifying but lost in the second in straight sets to alternate player [Ramkumar Ramanathan](/source/Ramkumar_Ramanathan).[2][3][4][5]
