== History ==
In 2003, there was a project underway to prevent interbasin transfer of the invasive fish species, [Mozambique tilapia](/source/Mozambique_tilapia). The fish breeds rapidly and competes with native fish species. Sunwater planned to install mesh screens near irrigation channel outlets to prevent the escape of the fish.<ref>{{Cite news |last=Hodge |first=Amanda |date=2 April 2003 |title=Carpentaria rivers face toxic shock from renegade fish |pages=16 |work=[The Australian](/source/The_Australian)}}</ref>
