***Sudden Strike 4*** is a [real-time tactics](/source/Real-time_tactics) [video game](/source/Video_game) set in [World War II](/source/World_War_II). It is the fifth game in the *[Sudden Strike](/source/Sudden_Strike)* series and the fourth standalone release.[2] It is the first game developed by Kite Games, a collaboration of industry veteran game developers.[3] Originally, it was scheduled to be released for PC and PlayStation 4 on June 27, 2017,[4] but was delayed until August 11 and 15, for PC and PlayStation 4, respectively.[5]

## Gameplay

The single-player mode features 3 campaigns ([German](/source/Germany_During_World_War_2), [Allied](/source/Allies_of_World_War_II) or [Soviet](/source/Soviet_Union_in_World_War_II)) with over 20 missions and modding support is planned. Each of the missions in the different campaigns are based on real life World War II battles/invasions. For example, in the German campaign the player commands the [Wehrmacht](/source/Wehrmacht) in the [Battle of France](/source/Battle_of_France), [Operation Barbarossa](/source/Operation_Barbarossa), the [Battle of Stalingrad](/source/Battle_of_Stalingrad), the [Battle of Kursk](/source/Battle_of_Kursk) and the [Battle of the Bulge](/source/Battle_of_the_Bulge). The [Invasion of Poland](/source/Invasion_of_Poland) is used as a tutorial for the game and also acts as a prelude to the German campaign. Post-release DLCs feature additional campaigns set in other theatres such as the [North African campaign](/source/North_African_campaign), the [Winter](/source/Winter_War) and the [Continuation War](/source/Continuation_War), the [Battle of Dunkirk](/source/Battle_of_Dunkirk) and the [Pacific War](/source/Pacific_War).

The game’s strategy closely follows that of its predecessors, focusing on the unique characteristics and skills of limited units instead of resource gathering and base building. Reinforcements play a role in the game, but they are scripted and predictable.[6] The game also introduces skill trees and commander roles with famous [World War II](/source/World_War_II) generals such as [George Patton](/source/George_Patton), [Heinz Guderian](/source/Heinz_Guderian), [Bernard Montgomery](/source/Bernard_Montgomery), [Omar Bradley](/source/Omar_Bradley) and [Georgy Zhukov](/source/Georgy_Zhukov).[7]
