# Subbiah Arunan

**Subbiah Arunan** is an Indian scientist and [Padma Shri](/source/Padma_Shri) awardee,[1] known for his role in the [Mars Orbiter Mission](/source/Mars_Orbiter_Mission) of [Indian Space Research Organisation](/source/ISRO) (ISRO).[2][3] He finished his schooling in St. Mary's Higher Secondary School, Vikramasingapuram in Tirunelveli Dist. He was born in [Kothaiseri](/source/Kothaiseri), [Tirunelveli district](/source/Tirunelveli_district), [Tamil Nadu](/source/Tamil_Nadu) and completed his [Mechanical engineering](/source/Mechanical_engineering) from [Coimbatore Institute of Technology](/source/Coimbatore_Institute_of_Technology).

In 1984, he started his career in [Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre](/source/Vikram_Sarabhai_Space_Centre).[4] He is the project director of [Mars Orbiter Mission](/source/Mars_Orbiter_Mission) in 2013.[5] He is married to Geetha Arunan, the daughter of fellow ISRO scientist [Nambi Narayanan](/source/Nambi_Narayanan).[6]
