**Stuart Dryburgh** (born 30 March 1952 in London) is an English-born [New Zealand](/source/New_Zealand) cinematographer.[1]

## Biography

Born in [London](/source/London), his family emigrated to New Zealand at the age of 9.[2]

He completed a degree in architecture at the [University of Auckland](/source/University_of_Auckland), but subsequently moved into the film industry.

He was nominated for the [Academy Award for Best Cinematography](/source/Academy_Award_for_Best_Cinematography) for his work on the 1993 romance film, *[The Piano](/source/The_Piano)*,[3] but lost to [Janusz Kamiński](/source/Janusz_Kami%C5%84ski) for *[Schindler's List](/source/Schindler's_List)*. He was also nominated for [an Emmy](/source/Primetime_Emmy_Award_for_Outstanding_Cinematography_for_a_Single-Camera_Series) for his work on the *[Boardwalk Empire](/source/Boardwalk_Empire)* [pilot](/source/Boardwalk_Empire_(episode)).
