# Strusshamn

**Strusshamn**[1] is an urban village in [Askøy Municipality](/source/Ask%C3%B8y_Municipality) in [Vestland](/source/Vestland) county, [Norway](/source/Norway). The village lies along the [Byfjorden](/source/Byfjorden_(Vestland)) on the southern coast of the island of [Askøy](/source/Ask%C3%B8y_(island)), just west of the large urban village of [Kleppestø](/source/Kleppest%C3%B8). Strusshamn is one of the cultural centers of the municipality, and it is the site of the main church for the municipality, [Strusshamn Church](/source/Strusshamn_Church).[2]

The village is part of the [urban area](/source/Urban_area) known as [Askøy](/source/Ask%C3%B8y) which covers most of the southern part of the island of Askøy. [Statistics Norway](/source/Statistics_Norway) tracks data for [Askøy](/source/Ask%C3%B8y), but it does not separately track the population statistics for this village area. The population of the whole [Askøy](/source/Ask%C3%B8y) urban area (in 2025) was 24,660.[3][4]

## History

Strusshamn is well known for its long maritime traditions and history. There are wooden buildings here dating back to around 1800. The village was used in the 18th and 19th centuries as the [quarantine](/source/Quarantine) harbour for the city of [Bergen](/source/Bergen_(city)), located a few kilometres to the east. Today, the production facilities for [Viksund Boats](/source/Viksund_Boats) is located in the village. Strusshamn is connected to the city of [Bergen](/source/Bergen_(city)) by the [Askøy Bridge](/source/Ask%C3%B8y_Bridge).
