The '''stromboid notch''' is an anatomical feature which is found in the [shell](/source/gastropod_shell) of one [taxonomic](/source/Taxonomy_(biology)) family of medium-sized to large sea snails, the [conch](/source/conch)es. 

[Marine](/source/Marine_(ocean)) [gastropod](/source/gastropod)s in the family [Strombidae](/source/Strombidae) have a notch in the edge of the shell [aperture](/source/aperture_(mollusc)) not far from the [siphonal canal](/source/siphonal_canal). This indentation is called the stromboid notch. Its function is to enable the animal to extend one of its two stalked eyes out through the notch when the animal is active.<ref>Kenneth R.
