# Strict Joy

***Strict Joy*** is the second album by [the Swell Season](/source/The_Swell_Season) ([Glen Hansard](/source/Glen_Hansard) and [Markéta Irglová](/source/Mark%C3%A9ta_Irglov%C3%A1)). It was released in Ireland on October 23, 2009, the rest of Europe on October 26, and on October 27 in North America on the [Anti-](/source/Anti-_(record_label)) record label.[1][2] The title of the album was derived from a 1931 book of poems written by [Irish](/source/Irish_people) poet [James Stephens](/source/James_Stephens_(author)).[3]

The album reached number 15 on the [*Billboard* 200](/source/Billboard_200).

## Promotion

"In These Arms", the first single from the album was released on [iTunes](/source/ITunes) on August 18, 2009, and began [streaming](/source/Streaming_media) on *[spinner.com](/source/Spinner.com)* during the same week.[4]

The Swell Season performed six of the new songs on [NPR](/source/National_Public_Radio)'s Tiny Desk Concert on the August 10th show.[5]
