Strange Parcels Genres Industrial hip hop Years active 1991–1994 Label On-U Sound Past members Keith LeBlanc Skip McDonald Doug Wimbish

**Strange Parcels** was an [industrial hip-hop](/source/Industrial_hip-hop) group, formed in 1991. The nucleus was guitarist [Skip McDonald](/source/Little_Axe), drummer [Keith LeBlanc](/source/Keith_LeBlanc) and bassist [Doug Wimbish](/source/Doug_Wimbish). The group also enlisted the aid of numerous guest musicians, including [Mark Stewart](/source/Mark_Stewart_(English_musician)), [Bim Sherman](/source/Bim_Sherman), [Jesse Rae](/source/Jesse_Rae), [Talvin Singh](/source/Talvin_Singh) and Basil Clarke.

## History

After [Tackhead's](/source/Tackhead) dissolution in 1990, producer [Adrian Sherwood](/source/Adrian_Sherwood), bassist [Doug Wimbish](/source/Doug_Wimbish) and multi instrumentalist [David Harrow](/source/David_Harrow) wished to return to territory akin to that of their former musical project [Fats Comet](/source/Fats_Comet), which had been abandoned in 1987. Radio presenter Steve Barker of [On the Wire](/source/On_the_Wire) described their musical approach as "[Temptations](/source/The_Temptations) on acid", in that the group would use pop oriented material as a foundation on which to experiment.[1] In 1991, they recorded several tracks which appeared on *Pay It All Back* compilations issued through [On-U Sound Records](/source/On-U_Sound_Records).

Recorded with [tabla](/source/Tabla) player [Talvin Singh](/source/Talvin_Singh) and reduced input from Sherwood, Strange Parcels' full-length debut *[Disconnection](/source/Disconnection_(album))* was released in 1994.[2][3] Critic Stephen Cook described it as "a cross between [David Byrne](/source/David_Byrne) and [Brian Eno's](/source/Brian_Eno) *[My Life in the Bush of Ghosts](/source/My_Life_in_the_Bush_of_Ghosts_(album))* and some of Singh's later solo outings, with the occasional funk-rock beat being wholly a [Tackhead](/source/Tackhead) leftover."[4] After the release of *Disconnection*, Strange Parcels was abandoned with its members continuing to pursue other musical endeavors.[5]
