The song is the lead single in support of his debut studio album, *[Rahsaan Patterson](/source/Rahsaan_Patterson_(album))*. "Stop By" failed to chart on *Billboard's* [Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs](/source/Hot_R%26B/Hip-Hop_Songs), the song peaked at no.39 on [Hot R&B Airplay](/source/Hot_R%26B_Airplay). The song was also released as a single in the [UK](/source/United_Kingdom) in July 1997.
