It has sections for [association football](/source/association_football), [team handball](/source/team_handball), [orienteering](/source/orienteering), [gymnastics](/source/gymnastics) and [Nordic skiing](/source/Nordic_skiing).

It was founded on 15 January 1931 as the skiing club ''Stokke SK''.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.stokkeil.no/showpage.asp?id=78|title=Historikk|publisher=Stokke IL|language=Norwegian|access-date=27 July 2010}}</ref> Known skiers from Stokke IL include [Kristian Horntvedt](/source/Kristian_Horntvedt).,<ref>{{cite web |url=https://www.fis-ski.com/DB/general/athlete-biography.html?sectorcode=CC&competitorid=25788&type=result |title=Kristian HORNTVEDT |website=FIS-ski.com |publisher=International Ski and Snowboard Federation}}</ref> Kristoffer R. Moslet, and Sindre Stokke. The Stokke IL ski team finished third in the Norwegian national championship in 2007, held in Meråker. The squad included Sindre Stokke, Espen Harald Bjerke and Kristian Horntvedt.

The men's football team currently plays in the Fourth Division, the fifth tier of Norwegian football. It last played in the [Norwegian Second Division](/source/Fair_Play_ligaen) in [1997](/source/1997_Norwegian_Second_Division).
