# Steven Schick

**Steven Schick** (born May 8, 1954[1]) is a [percussionist](/source/Percussion) and conductor from the [United States](/source/United_States), specializing in [contemporary classical music](/source/Contemporary_classical_music). He teaches at the [University of California, San Diego](/source/University_of_California,_San_Diego) and was the music director and conductor of the La Jolla Symphony Orchestra from 2007 to 2022.[2][3]

In February 2011, Schick was named director of the [San Francisco Contemporary Music Players](/source/San_Francisco_Contemporary_Music_Players). He replaces Maestro [David Milnes](/source/David_Milnes), who stepped down in 2009.

In 2012, he became the first artist-in-residence with the [International Contemporary Ensemble](/source/International_Contemporary_Ensemble) (ICE).[4]
