**Steven Nistor** (born May 22, 1979) is an American touring and studio drummer, best known for his work with [Daniel Lanois](/source/Daniel_Lanois) and [Sparks](/source/Sparks_(band)#Other_musicians).

## Biography

### Early life

Steven Nistor was born and raised in Detroit. He attended [Wayne State University](/source/Wayne_State_University) where he earned a Bachelor of Jazz Studies on a full scholarship and mentored under [Branford Marsalis](/source/Branford_Marsalis), [Ben Sidran](/source/Ben_Sidran) and [Kenny Werner](/source/Kenny_Werner). During this time he studied drums with [Gerald Cleaver](/source/Gerald_Cleaver_(musician)) and [Scott Amendola](/source/Scott_Amendola), and has since studied with [Ralph Humphrey](/source/The_Mothers_of_Invention#Personnel), [Ra-Kalam Bob Moses](/source/Bob_Moses_(musician)) and [Dave Elitch](/source/Dave_Elitch).
