He played [college football](/source/college_football) for the [Utah Utes](/source/Utah_Utes_football), twice finishing second in the country in receiving [touchdown](/source/touchdown)s with 11 his sophomore and 8 his junior year, and led the nation in [kickoff return](/source/kickoff_return)s in 1972. He was a first-team [All-American](/source/College_Football_All-America_Team) (as a return specialist) and Academic All-American in 1973.
