==Career==
Educated at [John Taylor Collegiate](/source/John_Taylor_Collegiate) in [Winnipeg](/source/Winnipeg), Lucas joined the [Canadian Forces](/source/Canadian_Forces) in 1969 and graduated from the [Canadian Forces Air Navigation School](/source/Canadian_Forces_Air_Navigation_School) in 1974.<ref name=bio>Former city man to lead air force, Winnipeg Sun, February 17, 2005</ref> He became Commanding Officer of [435 Transport Squadron](/source/435_Transport_and_Rescue_Squadron) in July 1989, Commander of [CFB Goose Bay](/source/CFB_Goose_Bay) in 1990 and Director of Joint Requirements at the [National Defence Headquarters](/source/National_Defence_Headquarters_(Canada)) in 1994.<ref name=force>[http://www.forceaerienne.gc.ca Canada's Air Force, Organizations, CAS, Lieutenant-General Lucas]</ref> He went on to be Director of Aerospace Planning Coordination in 1996, and then joined the staff at [1 Canadian Air Division](/source/1_Canadian_Air_Division) Headquarters in Summer 1997.<ref name=force/> After that he became Commander of 1 Canadian Air Division / Canadian [NORAD](/source/NORAD) Region in 2000, Chief of Staff Joint Force Generation in 2003 and [Chief of the Air Staff](/source/Commander_of_the_Royal_Canadian_Air_Force) in 2005 before retiring in 2007.<ref name=bio/>
