# Steve Kenney

**Steve Kenney** (born December 26, 1955) is an American former professional [football](/source/American_football) player who was a [guard](/source/Guard_(American_football)) for seven seasons with the [Philadelphia Eagles](/source/Philadelphia_Eagles) and [Detroit Lions](/source/Detroit_Lions) of the [National Football League](/source/National_Football_League) (NFL). He played [college football](/source/College_football) for the [Clemson Tigers](/source/Clemson_Tigers_football).[1]

## NFL career

### 1981

During a 1981 NFL Wild Card playoff game against the [New York Giants](/source/New_York_Giants), Kenney suffered a broken ankle when teammate Stan Walters was blocking [Lawrence Taylor](/source/Lawrence_Taylor). Taylor drive back Walters, who rolled up into Kenney's ankle in the turf of [Veterans Stadium](/source/Veterans_Stadium). Kenney was carried off the field by team trainers.
