# Steve Castor

**Stephen R. Castor** is an American trial attorney who served as minority [counsel](/source/Congressional_staff) in the [impeachment inquiry against Donald Trump](/source/Impeachment_inquiry_against_Donald_Trump).[1][2] Castor has been a congressional staff member in the [House Oversight Committee](/source/United_States_House_Committee_on_Oversight_and_Reform) since 2004.[3]

## Early life

Castor received his bachelor's degree in business logistics from [Pennsylvania State University](/source/Pennsylvania_State_University) in 1995[4] and in 1998 he received a [master of business administration](/source/Master_of_business_administration) degree from [Lehigh University](/source/Lehigh_University).[5][6] He subsequently received his [JD](/source/Juris_Doctor) degree from [George Washington University Law School](/source/George_Washington_University_Law_School).[3]

## Career

Castor began his career as a litigator in [commercial law](/source/Commercial_law) at the law firm [Blank Rome](/source/Blank_Rome) in [Philadelphia](/source/Philadelphia) and [Washington, D.C.](/source/Washington,_D.C.)[7][8] He is a contributor on the [Federalist Society](/source/Federalist_Society) website. Castor has been a congressional staff member in the [House Oversight Committee](/source/United_States_House_Committee_on_Oversight_and_Reform) since 2005.[3][7] He has served as a [congressional staffer](/source/Congressional_staff) for a total of seven committee chairmen, including four Republicans.[7] He was transferred to the Intelligence Committee along with Representative [Jim Jordan](/source/Jim_Jordan) who joined the committee before the beginning of the [impeachment inquiry against Donald Trump](/source/Impeachment_inquiry_against_Donald_Trump).[9]

In early November 2019, Castor was appointed as minority counsel in the impeachment inquiry, conducting questioning of witnesses on behalf of Republican members of the Intelligence Committee.[1] During the impeachment, Castor carried his legal briefs in a grocery bag.[10] His cousin, [Bruce Castor](/source/Bruce_Castor), represented Donald Trump at his second impeachment.[11]
