The '''Stepney Baronetcy''', of Prendergast in the County of Pembroke, was a title in the [Baronetage of England](/source/Baronetage_of_England). It was created on 24 November 1621 for John Stepney. His son, Sir John, the third Baronet represented [Pembroke](/source/Pembroke_(UK_Parliament_constituency)) and [Haverfordwest](/source/Haverfordwest_(UK_Parliament_constituency)) in Parliament. The latter's nephew, the fourth Baronet, married Justina, daughter of [Sir Anthony van Dyck](/source/Anthony_van_Dyck). Their only son, Sir Thomas, the fifth Baronet, sat as [Member of Parliament](/source/Member_of_Parliament) for [Carmarthenshire](/source/Carmarthenshire_(UK_Parliament_constituency)). Sir Thomas's great-grandson, Sir John, the eighth Baronet, represented [Monmouth](/source/Monmouth_(UK_Parliament_constituency)) in Parliament and served as Envoy to [Dresden](/source/List_of_diplomats_from_the_United_Kingdom_to_Saxony) and [Berlin](/source/List_of_diplomats_from_the_United_Kingdom_to_Prussia). Maria Justina Stepney, sister of the eighth and ninth Baronets, married Andrew Cowell. Their son [John Cowell](/source/Sir_John_Cowell-Stepney%2C_1st_Baronet) succeeded to the Stepney estates, assumed the additional surname of Stepney and was created a baronet in 1871 (see [Cowell-Stepney baronets](/source/Cowell-Stepney_baronets)).
