**Stephen Desmond Soraghan McMullan** (born 31 December 2004) is a Northern Irish professional [footballer](/source/Association_football) who plays as a [goalkeeper](/source/Goalkeeper_(association_football)) for [League of Ireland Premier Division](/source/League_of_Ireland_Premier_Division) club [Waterford](/source/Waterford_F.C.), on loan from [EFL League Two](/source/EFL_League_Two) club [Fleetwood Town](/source/Fleetwood_Town_F.C.). He has represented both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland at underage level.

McMullan made his debut for [Warrenpoint Town](/source/Warrenpoint_Town_F.C.) in the [NIFL Premiership](/source/NIFL_Premiership) in January 2022 and was signed by [English Football League](/source/English_Football_League) club Fleetwood Town four months later.

## Club career

### Early career

Born in [Armagh](/source/Armagh),[4] McMullan was raised in [Dundalk](/source/Dundalk), [County Louth](/source/County_Louth) and began playing his youth football with local club Woodview Celtic, before playing for the Academy of [League of Ireland](/source/League_of_Ireland) club [Dundalk](/source/Dundalk_F.C.) in 2019.[5]

### Warrenpoint Town

McMullan joined [Warrenpoint Town](/source/Warrenpoint_Town_F.C.) at the age of 14.[6] He made his debut in the [NIFL Premiership](/source/NIFL_Premiership) at the age of 17 on 15 January 2022, in a 1–0 defeat to [Crusaders](/source/Crusaders_F.C.) at [Milltown](/source/Milltown_(stadium)).[7]

### Fleetwood Town

On 5 May 2022, he signed a two-year contract with [EFL League One](/source/EFL_League_One) club [Fleetwood Town](/source/Fleetwood_Town_F.C.).[8] He signed a new long-term contract in January 2023 after impressing in under-18 and development squad games.[9][10] He made his first-team debut for Fleetwood on 23 April 2023, in a 1–0 win over [Milton Keynes Dons](/source/Milton_Keynes_Dons_F.C.) at [Highbury Stadium](/source/Highbury_Stadium_(Fleetwood)).[11][12] He cited regular goalkeeper [Jay Lynch](/source/Jay_Lynch_(footballer)) as an inspiration and said he was "over the moon with the opportunity".[13] He was linked with [Premier League](/source/Premier_League) clubs [Chelsea](/source/Chelsea_F.C.), [Newcastle United](/source/Newcastle_United_F.C.) and [Aston Villa](/source/Aston_Villa_F.C.) over the summer.[14]

#### Caernarfon Town loan

On 6 July 2024, McMullan joined [Cymru Premier](/source/Cymru_Premier) club [Caernarfon Town](/source/Caernarfon_Town_F.C.) on a season-long loan deal.[15] He made 17 appearances in all competitions for the club during his loan spell.[16]

#### Waterford loans

On 7 January 2025, McMullan joined [League of Ireland Premier Division](/source/League_of_Ireland_Premier_Division) club [Waterford](/source/Waterford_F.C.) on a season-long loan.[17] He saved a penalty on 15 February 2025 in a 3–2 win away to [Sligo Rovers](/source/Sligo_Rovers_F.C.) at [The Showgrounds](/source/The_Showgrounds%2C_Sligo) in the opening league game of the season.[18] He made 39 appearances in all competitions during his loan spell before returning to Fleetwood.[19]

On 15 December 2025, it was announced that McMullan would return to Waterford on a season long loan deal.[20]

## International career

He was called up to the [Northern Ireland under-19](/source/Northern_Ireland_national_under-19_football_team) squad in September 2022.[21][22] He received his first call up to the [Northern Ireland senior team](/source/Northern_Ireland_national_football_team) in November 2023.[23]
