As a captain, he served as the [fire support officer](/source/fire_support_officer) for the [11th Marine Expeditionary Unit](/source/11th_Marine_Expeditionary_Unit) ([Special Operations Capable](/source/Marine_expeditionary_unit_(special_operations_capable))) for two deployments and later commanded Battery E, [2nd Battalion, 11th Marines](/source/2nd_Battalion%2C_11th_Marines) from 1998 to 2000, where he deployed with Battalion Landing Team 1/5 in support of [31st Marine Expeditionary Unit](/source/31st_Marine_Expeditionary_Unit) (Special Operations Capable).

As a Major in [5th Battalion, 11th Marines](/source/5th_Battalion%2C_11th_Marines) he was the liaison officer, operations officer and [executive officer](/source/Executive_officer). In 2006, he assumed command of 1st Battalion, 12th Marines (Rein) and deployed to [Al Anbar Province](/source/Al_Anbar_Governorate), Iraq in support of [Operation Iraqi Freedom](/source/2003_invasion_of_Iraq).

In 2011, he joined [I Marine Expeditionary Force](/source/I_Marine_Expeditionary_Force) (Forward), where he deployed to [Helmand Province](/source/Helmand_Province), Afghanistan in support of [Operation Enduring Freedom](/source/Operation_Enduring_Freedom). Colonel Liszewski commanded the [11th Marine Regiment](/source/11th_Marine_Regiment) in the [1st Marine Division](/source/1st_Marine_Division) from 2012 to 2014.

Lt. Gen.
