# Stephen Bourke

**Stephen Bourke** is an Australian [archaeologist](/source/Archaeologist) of the [ancient Near East](/source/Ancient_Near_East).[1] He obtained his [Ph.D.](/source/Doctor_of_Philosophy) from [University College London](/source/University_College_London) in 1992, and is an Honorary Fellow of the [Council for British Research in the Levant](/source/Council_for_British_Research_in_the_Levant).[2]

Bourke has led the ongoing [University of Sydney](/source/University_of_Sydney) excavations at [Pella](/source/Pella,_Jordan) in [Jordan](/source/Jordan) since 1992.[3] Previously, Bourke also directed the university's excavations at [Teleilat el Ghassul](/source/Teleilat_el_Ghassul).[2][4]
