She is perhaps best known for her roles in the [fantasy film](/source/Fantasy_film) *[MirrorMask](/source/MirrorMask)* (2005), the [Syfy](/source/Syfy) series *[Defiance](/source/Defiance_(TV_series))* (2013–2015), and the [Crackle](/source/Crackle_(service)) crime series *[Snatch](/source/Snatch_(TV_series))* (2017–2018). ## Early life Leonidas was born in [Westminster](/source/Westminster), London, the daughter of a [Greek Cypriot](/source/Greek_Cypriots) father and an [English](/source/English_people) mother.[1] She also has [Welsh](/source/Welsh_people) ancestry through her mother. Her younger brother [Dimitri](/source/Dimitri_Leonidas) and younger sister [Georgina](/source/Georgina_Leonidas) are also actors. ## Career Leonidas started acting in community theatre when she was eight; at nine she acquired an agent and began to work in television.[2] Notable credits include the [television drama](/source/Television_film) *Daddy's Girl*, the soap opera *[Night and Day](/source/Night_and_Day_(TV_series))* and a 2004 episode of *[Doc Martin](/source/Doc_Martin)* (entitled 'Of All the Harbours in All the Towns') in which she plays Melanie, a local Portwenn 15-year-old girl who develops an unhealthy interest in the surgeon. In 2005 she starred in [Neil Gaiman](/source/Neil_Gaiman) and [Dave McKean](/source/Dave_McKean)'s *[MirrorMask](/source/MirrorMask)* in the dual roles of Helena and the Dark Princess. She followed this with roles in a [BBC](/source/BBC) [adaptation](/source/Dracula_(2006_film)) of *[Dracula](/source/Dracula)*, as well as *[Crusade in Jeans](/source/Crusade_in_Jeans_(film))*. Her theatrical roles have included Adela in a production of Lorca's *[The House of Bernarda Alba](/source/The_House_of_Bernarda_Alba)* at [Coventry](/source/Coventry)'s [Belgrade Theatre](/source/Belgrade_Theatre), and Dani in *[The Sugar Syndrome](/source/The_Sugar_Syndrome)*, staged at the [Royal Court Theatre](/source/Royal_Court_Theatre) Upstairs, London, in 2003. In this latter production, reviewer Lizzie Loveridge said she gave a performance "way beyond her years".[3] Leonidas also starred in the BBC [docudrama](/source/Docudrama) *[Atlantis](/source/Atlantis_(docudrama))*, which aired on [BBC One](/source/BBC_One) and [BBC One HD](/source/BBC_One_HD) on 8 May 2011. In 2011, she was also in a play for the Transatlantyk Festival called *Influence*, written by Shem Bitterman. Leonidas later teamed up with Dave McKean to work on the film *Luna*, released in 2014. She also starred as Irisa Nolan in the [science fiction](/source/Science_fiction) TV series [*Defiance*](/source/Defiance_(TV_series)), which ran for three seasons.[4] In 2016, Leonidas played Sophie Hawthorne in the [CBS](/source/CBS) mystery series *[American Gothic](/source/American_Gothic_(2016_TV_series))*.
