'''Stenomesseae''' was a [tribe](/source/tribe_(biology)) (in the family [Amaryllidaceae](/source/Amaryllidaceae), subfamily [Amaryllidoideae](/source/Amaryllidoideae)), where it forms part of the Andean [clade](/source/clade), one of two American clades.{{sfn|Vigneron|2008}} The tribe was originally described by [Traub](/source/Hamilton_Traub) in his monograph on the Amaryllidaceae in 1963, as '''Stenomessae''' based on the type genus ''[Stenomesson](/source/Stenomesson)''.{{sfn|Traub|1963}} In 1995 it was recognised that Eustephieae was a distinct group separate from the other Stenomesseae.{{sfn|Meerow|1995}} Subsequently, the Müller-Doblies' (1996) divided tribe Eustephieae into two subtribes, '''Stenomessinae''' and '''Eustephiinae'''.{{sfn|Müller-Doblies|Müller-Doblies|1996}}

The advent of [molecular phylogenetics](/source/molecular_phylogenetics) showed that the Stemomesseae (including Stenomesson) was [polyphyletic](/source/polyphyletic). Consequently, a separate tribe ([Clinantheae](/source/Clinantheae)) was created from one group and the remainder, which [segregated](/source/segregation_(taxonomy)) with [Eucharideae](/source/Eucharideae) was treated as another tribe. Initially it was suggested that this combined tribe be referred to as a newly circumscribed Stenomesseae,{{sfn|Meerow et al.|2000b}} but subsequently the term Eucharideae has been conserved.{{sfn|Meerow|2010}}
