**Stefani Stoeva** ([Bulgarian](/source/Bulgarian_language): Стефани Стоева; born 23 September 1995) is a Bulgarian [badminton](/source/Badminton) player specializing in doubles. Her current partner is her older sister, [Gabriela Stoeva](/source/Gabriela_Stoeva). They competed at the [2016](/source/Badminton_at_the_2016_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Women's_doubles), [2020](/source/Badminton_at_the_2020_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Women's_doubles) and the [2024 Summer Olympics](/source/Badminton_at_the_2024_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Women's_doubles).[2][3] The duo together have won gold medals in the [2015](/source/Badminton_at_the_2015_European_Games) and [2023 European Games](/source/Badminton_at_the_2023_European_Games) and also four successive European Championships in [2018](/source/2018_European_Badminton_Championships), [2021](/source/2021_European_Badminton_Championships), [2022](/source/2022_European_Badminton_Championships) and [2025](/source/2025_European_Badminton_Championships) editions.[4][5] Stefani Stoeva has also won some individual titles in women's singles competition.

## Career

Stoeva started playing badminton at age 9 at the Haskovo School Club in 2007. She won gold medals at the U17 European Championships in the girls' singles and doubles.[6] At the 2014 Scottish Open Grand Prix, she won in the women's doubles event, partnered with [Gabriela Stoeva](/source/Gabriela_Stoeva). They beat [Heather Olver](/source/Heather_Olver) and [Lauren Smith](/source/Lauren_Smith_(badminton)) of England in the finals round with the score 21–7, 21–15.[7]

In 2015, she won the [Dutch Open](/source/2015_Dutch_Open_Grand_Prix) in women's doubles against the top seeds, World No.7 [Eefje Muskens](/source/Eefje_Muskens) and [Selena Piek](/source/Selena_Piek) of Nederlands with the score 24–22, 21–15 in the final.[8] She won the [Russian Open](/source/2015_Russian_Open_Grand_Prix) against [Johanna Goliszewski](/source/Johanna_Goliszewski) and [Carla Nelte](/source/Carla_Nelte) of German 21–15, 21–17.[9] She competed in the [European Games](/source/Badminton_at_the_2015_European_Games), and won gold in the women's doubles alongside her sister.[10]

In 2016, Stoeva competed at the [Rio 2016 Summer Olympics](/source/Badminton_at_the_2016_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Women's_doubles), but did not advance to the knocked-out stage after placing third in the group D stage.[11]

In 2017, she became the women's doubles runner-up at the [Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold](/source/2017_Swiss_Open_Grand_Prix_Gold). They lost to China pair [Chen Qingchen](/source/Chen_Qingchen) and [Jia Yifan](/source/Jia_Yifan) with the score 16–21, 15–21.[12] The sisters also won the silver medal at the [European Championships](/source/2017_European_Badminton_Championships).[13]

### 2020–2021: Second European Championships title

Stefani and her partner Gabriela were lost in the initial rounds in two opening tournaments in 2020. They lost in the first round to [Chang Ye-na](/source/Chang_Ye-na) and [Kim Hye-rin](/source/Kim_Hye-rin) at the [Indonesia Masters](/source/2020_Indonesia_Masters), and to world number 1 [Chen Qingchen](/source/Chen_Qingchen) and [Jia Yifan](/source/Jia_Yifan) in the [Thailand Masters](/source/2020_Thailand_Masters_(badminton)). The Stoeva then reached the final in the [Spain Masters](/source/2020_Spain_Masters), losing the final to [Greysia Polii](/source/Greysia_Polii) and [Apriyani Rahayu](/source/Apriyani_Rahayu) in a close rubber games.[14] Due to the [COVID-19 pandemic](/source/COVID-19_pandemic), numerous tournaments on the [2020 BWF World Tour](/source/2020_BWF_World_Tour) were either cancelled or rescheduled for later in the year, they then felt the atmosphere of a tournament in Sofia in October, at the [Bulgarian International](/source/Bulgarian_International_Championship),[15] where she and her partner emerged victory at that tournament. The duo then ended the season by winning the Super 100 event at the [SaarLorLux Open](/source/2020_SaarLorLux_Open).[16]

The Stoevas opened the 2021 season as the finalists in the [Swiss Open](/source/2021_Swiss_Open_(badminton)), losing the title to the rising Malaysian pair [Pearly Tan](/source/Pearly_Tan) and [Thinaah Muralitharan](/source/Thinaah_Muralitharan).[17] They then finished runner-up in the [Orléans Masters](/source/2021_Orl%C3%A9ans_Masters) this time losing to [Jongkolphan Kititharakul](/source/Jongkolphan_Kititharakul) and [Rawinda Prajongjai](/source/Rawinda_Prajongjai) of Thailand. The duo then clinched their first title of the year by winning their second [European Championships](/source/2021_European_Badminton_Championships) title in [Kyiv](/source/Kyiv), Ukraine.[18] The duo competed at the [2020 Tokyo Olympics](/source/Badminton_at_the_2020_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Women's_doubles) but were eliminated in the group stage.[19]

### 2022: 3rd European Championships title

Stefani and her partner Gabriela opened the 2022 season with quite satisfactory results, by becoming finalists in the [German Open](/source/2022_German_Open_(badminton)). They then won 3 consecutive tournaments, in the [Swiss Open](/source/2022_Swiss_Open_(badminton)), [Orléans Masters](/source/2022_Orl%C3%A9ans_Masters) and in their third [European Championships](/source/2022_European_Badminton_Championships).[20]

Stefani and Gabriela ended the year on poor form, exiting four of their final six tournaments in the first round. Her sister, Gabriela, stated that their partnerships were lost communication on court, only arguing, and the energy around them was pretty negative.[21]

### 2023: Second European Games gold

In the first semester of 2023, Stoeva has not been able to win any single titles, as her best results with Gabriela was being quarter-finalists in the [Malaysia](/source/2023_Malaysia_Open_(badminton)), [India](/source/2023_India_Open_(badminton)) and the [German Opens](/source/2023_German_Open_(badminton)).[22] Stefani and Gabriela claimed their first title of the year by winning the gold medal at the [European Games](/source/Badminton_at_the_2023_European_Games_%E2%80%93_Women's_doubles), beating Dutch pair [Debora Jille](/source/Debora_Jille) and [Cheryl Seinen](/source/Cheryl_Seinen) in the finals.[23] They also competed in the [BWF World Championships](/source/2023_BWF_World_Championships_%E2%80%93_Women's_doubles), but had to be knocked out in the early rounds by Yeung Nga Ting and Yeung Pui Lam of Hong Kong. In the remaining tournaments in 2023, they were able to win the International Challenge titles in [Scotland](/source/Scottish_Open_(badminton)), [Bahrain](/source/Bahrain_International_Challenge) and [Wales](/source/Welsh_International),[24] as well as finished runner-up in the [Irish Open](/source/Irish_Open_(badminton)).[25]

### 2024

Stoeva won her first international title in 2024 at the [Azerbaijan International](/source/Azerbaijan_International_(badminton)).[26] She and her partner reached the finals in the [German Open](/source/2024_German_Open_(badminton)), but lost to Chinese pair [Li Yijing](/source/Li_Yijing) and [Luo Xumin](/source/Luo_Xumin).[27] As the defending champion at the [European Championships](/source/2024_European_Badminton_Championships), Stoeva unable to defend their title after lost to French pair [Margot Lambert](/source/Margot_Lambert) and [Anne Tran](/source/Anne_Tran) in the final.[28]
