# Stavanger Peninsula

**Stavanger Peninsula** ([Norwegian](/source/Norwegian_language): *Stavangerhalvøya*) is a [peninsula](/source/Peninsula) in [Rogaland County](/source/Rogaland_County), [Norway](/source/Norway). The peninsula is named for the [city of Stavanger](/source/Stavanger_(city)), located on its northeastern shore and it includes the most populous parts of the [Greater Stavanger](/source/Greater_Stavanger) urban area. The peninsula extends from a line between the [Sandnes](/source/Sandnes_(town)) harbour at the southern end of the [Gandsfjorden](/source/Gandsfjorden) straight west to the village of Ølbør in [Sola Municipality](/source/Sola_Municipality). This line runs just south of [Stavanger Airport](/source/Stavanger_Airport). The peninsula is delimited by the [Gandsfjorden](/source/Gandsfjorden), [Boknafjorden](/source/Boknafjorden), [Byfjorden](/source/Byfjorden_(Rogaland)), and the [North Sea](/source/North_Sea).

Stavanger Peninsula includes [Randaberg Municipality](/source/Randaberg_Municipality), as well as parts of [Stavanger Municipality](/source/Stavanger_Municipality), [Sandnes Municipality](/source/Sandnes_Municipality), and [Sola Municipality](/source/Sola_Municipality).[1]

The name *Stavanger Peninsula* is occasionally used interchangeably with *North [Jæren](/source/J%C3%A6ren)* ([Norwegian](/source/Norwegian_language): *Nord-Jæren*), but the former is a [geographical](/source/Geographical) region, while the latter is a [political](/source/Political) definition.
