It features teams of actors representing various [American](/source/United_States) TV shows competing in sports events. The events the teams competed in include [swim](/source/swimming_(sport)) sprints and relays, [kayaking](/source/kayaking), [track](/source/Track_and_field) sprints and relays, a [bicycle](/source/bicycle) relay, and an "Apache Relay" obstacle course.

The show ran for two seasons of 13 episodes. The host throughout was former [Olympic](/source/Olympic_Games) [decathlon](/source/decathlon) champion and actor [Bruce Jenner](/source/Bruce_Jenner). [Pamela Sue Martin](/source/Pamela_Sue_Martin) co-hosted for Season One, while Season Two had [Morgan Brittany](/source/Morgan_Brittany). Former [American football](/source/American_football) player and actor [Dick Butkus](/source/Dick_Butkus) served as the show's "Special Referee".

The series was similar in presentation to ''[Battle of the Network Stars](/source/Battle_of_the_Network_Stars)'', and debuted only four months after the 18th special aired. The program was distributed by [Viacom](/source/Viacom_(1952-2005)), now [CBS Media Ventures](/source/CBS_Media_Ventures).
