The **Stapleton Colony**, based in [Stapleton](/source/Stapleton,_Selby), North Yorkshire, is a [Christian pacifist](/source/Christian_pacifism) and [anarchist](/source/Christian_anarchism) community, and the only remaining colony of the [Brotherhood Church](/source/Brotherhood_Church).[1] By 2016 the population of the colony had declined to four residents.[2]

In 1897 several members of the Brotherhood Church, some from a [Quaker](/source/Quaker) background, moved to [Leeds](/source/Leeds). The receipt of a legacy left to a member, Lillian Ferris, enabled the group to relocate to a seven and a half acre [smallholding](/source/Smallholding) at Stapleton in 1921.[3][4]

The Stapleton community are [vegetarian](/source/Vegetarian), grow much of their own [organic food](/source/Organic_food) and attempt to live independently from the [government](/source/Government). They are affiliated to the [Peace Pledge Union](/source/Peace_Pledge_Union), [Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament](/source/Campaign_for_Nuclear_Disarmament) and [War Resisters' International](/source/War_Resisters'_International).[5] Residents have included Len W. Gibson (1919–2007) who was a lifelong peace campaigner and [conscientious objector](/source/Conscientious_objector).[6]
