'''Stanwix Rural''' is a [civil parish](/source/civil_parish) in the [Cumberland](/source/Cumberland_(unitary_authority)) district of [Cumbria](/source/Cumbria), England, immediately to the north east of [Carlisle](/source/Carlisle%2C_Cumbria) itself – parts of the Carlisle urban area are in the parish boundaries.

The parish includes the villages and hamlets of [Brunstock](/source/Brunstock), [Houghton](/source/Houghton%2C_Cumbria), [High Crosby](/source/High_Crosby), [Linstock](/source/Linstock%2C_Cumbria), [Low Crosby](/source/Low_Crosby), [Rickerby](/source/Rickerby), [Tarraby](/source/Tarraby) and parts of [Harker](/source/Harker%2C_Cumbria) and [Whiteclosegate](/source/Whiteclosegate).

Before 1966 the parish was simply called '''Stanwix'''<ref>{{cite web|url=https://www.ukbmd.org.uk/reg/districts/border.html|title=Border Registration District|publisher=UKBMD|accessdate=12 January 2022}}</ref> although the village of [Stanwix](/source/Stanwix) itself had been, in 1912, incorporated into the [city](/source/City_status_in_the_United_Kingdom), civil parish and [municipal borough](/source/municipal_borough) of Carlisle.

The [River Eden](/source/River_Eden%2C_Cumbria) forms the southern edge of the parish and the [M6 motorway](/source/M6_motorway) and [A689 road](/source/A689_road) both run through the area.

An [electoral ward](/source/Wards_and_electoral_divisions_of_the_United_Kingdom) in the same name exists.
